Arts Council Board of Directors Begins New Term


The ACT Art Centre and Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Council welcomes two new members and one returning member

The Annual General Meeting last month, welcomed two new members of the Board of Directors, Diane Speirs and Karl Doering, and one returning member, Linda King.

Diane is currently serving her 2nd term as President of the Garibaldi Art Club.  An active working artist, she gives workshops in painting with alcohol inks, makes beaded jewelry, and is constantly crocheting blankets.  She also has a lengthy history of community service, including as Chairperson for the Family Education and Support Centre (starting in 1985) and has co-led the Maple Ridge Chapter of Compassionate Friends, a group for bereaved parents, with her husband, Craig since the early 1990s.

Karl is an Articled Student at Meadowridge Law LLP and holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. While in university, Karl worked as a Faculty Research Assistant, volunteered with Access Pro Bono and Pro Bono Students Canada, held positions of VP of the Sports & Entertainment Law Club and First Year Representative of the UVic Business Law Association.

Linda is a founding member of the Arts Council and tireless advocate for the power of the arts in the community. She brings many years of volunteer work experience with a wide variety of community organizations, 18 years of municipal work as a Maple Ridge Councilor, in addition to a long career in education.

Comprising this year’s new Executive Committee are Laura Butler, President; Dawn Flanagan, Immediate Past President; Angie McLeod, Vice President; Linda King, Secretary, and Monica Schulte, Treasurer. Returning directors include Kim Dumore, Susan Chambers, Gary Cleave, and John Ricketts.


ACT Art Centre’s Executive & Artistic Director Curtis Pendleton will make the Council’s annual report to the Maple Ridge City Council on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 pm at the City of Maple Ridge Chambers (11955 Haney Place).  All Arts lovers are invited to attend.
