Participants will be guided through hand-building techniques to create coil pots, pinch pots and slab-built pieces such as tea lights, cups, bowls, textured vases and creative sculptures. Join ceramic artist Emily Sheppard for an immersive 4-week Raku firing workshop that will take your pottery skills to the next level! In this hands-on experience, you will spend the first three classes creating 3-5 unique pots using both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. On the last day of class, students will meet off-site for a fieldtrip at the Shadbolt Arts Centre in Burnaby to participate in the thrilling Raku firing process, culminating in a spectacular display of color and texture on your finished pieces. Expect around 4 hours on the final day, and leave with your own original artwork, perfect for showcasing or gifting! Let’s create unforgettable memories together through the art of Raku!

The deadline to take home all work from Summer 2024 is Friday, August 30th.
Please note the following:
Students must be present to pick out their work with a parent or guardian.
Children’s work is stored on the labelled shelves and numbered by class.
Unglazed (bisqueware) can be taken home and painted with acrylic paint at home.

PURCHASING pottery supplies
Purchase clay/tool kit online before the first day of class (10kg). ONLY STUDENTS REGISTERED IN AN ADULT POTTERY CLASS CAN PURCHASE EQUIPMENT.
Show the instructor payment confirmation at the start of class to receive the purchased clay or tool kit
Clay or tool kits can only be picked up during class so please plan ahead if you think you need some for Open Studio
