About the Exhibition

Ichigo Ichie – The Fruit That Bears Secrets is a solo exhibition by artist Cindy Mochizuki. Utilizing the multi-disciplinary mediums of digital animation, painting, drawing, puppetry and theatrical props, Mochizuki explores the history of Japanese Canadian berry farmers who settled and worked in the Fraser Valley Prior to World War II. She explores this history by gathering stories from Japanese Canadian elders in her community, and visually represents their experiences through her art. A central artwork in the exhibition is a large-scale projection of a hand-painted animation titled Autumn Strawberry detailing farming life of the Japanese Canadian community in prewar times.

  • Workshops will include a 30-minute guided tour and discussion of our newest exhibition, Ichigo Ichie – The Fruit that Bears Secrets, as well as a 60-minute art activity designed to compliment the exhibition.

  • All materials and equipment will be provided.
