This exhibition features the works of six female artists who are masters of artistic media working in ceramics, porcelain, painting, textile, prints and drawings. Each artist approaches the archetypal figure of the Goddess as a means to explore feminine stereotypes and roles. The exhibition conveys the notion that the feminine spirit pervades throughout the natural world: land and sea and that the divine feminine is a ubiquitous presence in the earth.

Inside/Out Tour and Talk: Reema Faris
Put That Book Down!
The Trope and Truth about Women and Reading
Saturday, April 9 | 10:30am to 12:00pm
Inside/Out is a new series of talks and discussions that takes selected ACT Art Gallery exhibitions as the catalyst to explore larger social, cultural and artistic issues. The series welcomes thinkers and writers from a wide variety of disciplines whose work gives broader context to exhibitions in the gallery.
Reema Faris, a PhD Candidate at SFU, focuses her work on women’s relationships with the happily ever after narratives in fiction. Reema will discuss women and reading within a historical context that acknowledges the female voice in literature both as the subject and as the author, feminine stereotypes, reclaiming the female narrative, and how women use their reading to build strength and resilience. Reema’s Inside /Out discussion accompanies Goddesses: A Multimedia exploration into the Divinely Feminine, featuring the works of six female artists who individually approach the archetypal figure of the Goddess as a means to explore feminine stereotypes and roles, and conveying the notion that the feminine spirit pervades throughout the natural world.
