CHILDREN’S FOCUSED EXHIBITION – ARTIST CALL

July-August, 2024

The ACT Art Gallery is accepting artwork submissions/proposals for an exhibition focused on children’s engagement, taking place in July to August 2024. We’re developing a playful and experimental exhibition that appeals to children and families during the time of year when school is out for summer. When children have the opportunity to engage with art through curiosity and play, the gallery becomes a place of joyful discovery. We encourage a wide range of mediums, ideas, and approaches to this artist call.

We are seeking artworks/projects that feature the following characteristics:

  • Has a hands-on or interactive element, engaging visual, tactile and/or auditory senses.

  • Appealing subject matter that references select elements (line, shape, colour, value, texture, space) and principles (balance, emphasis, movement, pattern, repetition, proportion, rhythm, unity) of art.

  • Within a wide range of mediums that include painting, drawing, illustration, photography, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, woodwork, installation, and mixed media. Acceptance of new media work (video, AI) will be dependent on equipment availability.  

  • Context and meaning of art can be explained to and understood by children ages 3-11.

  • Sturdy and able to withstand frequent handling/interaction over the course of 6-8 weeks.

  • Promotes artistic and creative engagement through play and experimentation.

  • Work can be previously created or made specifically for this call.

  • Artist Biography – tell us about yourself (200 words maximum)

  • Artist Statement - explain how artwork/project addresses the characteristics above (500 words maximum)

  • Up to 10 jpeg images of 5 artworks/projects (whether complete or in-progress)

Renumeration:

Artists will be paid a fee in line with CARFAC Category I Group Exhibition. The final amount of the fee will be dependent upon the number of selected artists.
