Junk Journals are hand-made books that can be created using recycled and found objects. Students learn to make signature booklets, and enclose them in a book cover made from empty cereal/ food boxes. Decorate your creation using scraps of fabric, paper, and other found objects. Then, learn to bind your pages together using bookbinding and embroidery techniques.

In this hands-on workshop, youth will design their own artwork by cutting out paper stencils, then use a screen to print their designs onto a t-shirt. Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dying technique, which produces beautiful patterns on fabric. Learn basic ways of tying, pinching, and folding fabrics using rubber bands, clamps, pegs, and string, to create a one-of-a-kind organic cotton bandana! Participants will also explore the beauty of natural colour and be taught how to extract pigments from plants or food waste such as onion skins, turmeric, black tea, carrot tops or avocado pitch to dye their shibori-bandana. No experience necessary, all supplies included.
