About the Series

For newcomers and aficionados alike, the Sunday Chamber Music Series presents casual afternoons of engaging and informative classical masterworks for small ensembles performed by some of the finest classical musicians in Canada and beyond.

This season’ series presents astounding works of genius from the very young, music written by child prodigies and child prodigies who grew into even more astonishing adult composers.

Curated by violinist David Gillham, the series celebrates a rich kaleidoscope of young genius, culminating with one of the most exciting young string quartets on the world stage today.

The Music of Youth is, ultimately, the music of hope.

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Praised for their “virtuosity, visceral expression, and rare unity of intention” (Boston Globe), the Viano Quartet are one of the most sought-after performing young ensembles today and currently in-residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Bowers Program from 2024-2027.

Since winning First Prize at the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition, they have traveled to nearly every major city across the globe, captivating audiences in New York, London, Berlin, Vancouver, Paris, Beijing, Toronto, Lucerne, and Los Angeles.  Complementing their program of Prodigies Haydn and Smetana, they perform an energetic new piece by Canadian composer Kevin Lau, the youngest person to be appointed Affiliate Composer of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, in 2012

Cellist Tate Zawadiuk and violinist Lucy Wang are native British Columbians, returning ‘home’ in this exciting conclusion to the series.
